2020 Toyota Avalon vs. Avalon Hybrid


The Avalon and Avalon Hybrid share a similar exterior that emphasizes aerodynamics and bold details. There is a subtle difference in the grilles of each model as the Hybrid features an active grille shutter which controls airflow into the engine compartment, thus improving fuel efficiency. Both models are equipped with LED headlights with daytime running lights and LED taillights.


You’ll find dual zone automatic climate control in both models but the 2020 Avalon Hybrid adds an electric compressor to improve fuel efficiency. Both models use Softex®-trimmed heated front seats with the XLE and XSE models. The Limited and Hybrid Limited models have Premium Leather-trimmed seats with heating and ventilation.


The 2020 Toyota Avalon and Avalon Hybrid have different engines which are listed below:

  • Avalon: 301-hp 3.5L V6 — 22/32 mpg (XLE), 22/31 mpg (XSE, TRD, Touring, Limited)
  • Avalon Hybrid: 215-hp 2.5L 4-Cylinder with Electric Motor — 44/44 mpg (XLE), 43/43 (XSE, Limited)


The Avalon engine pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission while the Avalon Hybrid engine utilizes a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission. The two models share the same suspension systems and electric power steering.

Technology and Safety

All models feature a 9-inch touchscreen display that supports Apple CarPlay™ and Bluetooth® wireless technology. You can upgrade to the available Premium Audio package which includes the JBL® Sound System with Clari-Fi® that features 14 speakers and a 1200W amp. Most of the technology is similar besides the information that is displayed on the 7-inch Multi-Information Display where the Avalon Hybrid adds energy levels and hybrid information system information.


Both models are equipped with Toyota Safety Sense™ P that includes the following:
